Free Nationals are best known as Anderson Paak’s live band, until now. They have just dropped their first release ‘Time’ since last year’s stand alone single ‘Beauty and Essex’. The new single features R&B singer, producer and writer Kali Uchis, and rapper Mac Miller, and is part of their forthcoming, self-titled album. Sunny acoustic strums and sparkly playing on electric piano pave the way for Kali’s smooth, soulful voice, singing "I gotta take some time to grow, but I don’t wana let you go...without you I’m miserable." This hook is repeated several times in the song, contributing to its catchiness as Mac Miller comes in with a simple yet effective rap. Guitar slides create the west coast ambience of this song, paired with the busy but equally succinct bass line. -Ellie Rose Davies
